Félix in Slonim
1937 – Félix, surrounded by Jozef, his grandfather, Solomon and David, his uncles
When Félix, my older brother was born, our parents led a hard life, getting up at dawn, driving to open air markets early in the morning to sell their goods.
When Félix was three, my mother took him to Slonim, on the assumption that he would be more comfortable there, and came back to Deauville to work. When my parents went back for him, nine months later, he had forgotten how to speak French, spoke fluent Russian, called his grandfather Papa and his aunt Rosa Mamotchka, and did not recognize our parents.
