One movie I missed when they showed it at the cinema, was Transamerica with amazing Felicity Huffman.
I rented the video and loved it.
This is how the plot starts (Wikipedia)

One week before her vaginoplasty, Sabrina ‘Bree’ Osbourne (Felicity Huffman) receives a phone call from Toby Wilkins (Kevin Zegers), a 17-year old boy who is jailed in New York City. He asks for Stanley Schupak (Bree’s former name), claiming to be his son.

Transamerica has so many aspects that it’s difficult to sum them up in a few lines. It’s not only a movie about transgender, it’s about being / becoming a mother and/or a father, about changing and adjusting, about generations and it’s also a road movie.
Felicity Huffman, a transfuge from Desperate Housewives is absolutely remarkable. An outstanding performance.
The movie won awards at Festivals of Berlin and Deauville and Felicity Huffman got the Golden Globe best actress award.

Totally unrelated, if you want a good laugh, go and see Kenju’s collection of wedding annoucements, You Just Can’t Make This Stuff Up!

  1. Thanks for the mention, Claude! I am happy that you enjoyed them.

I have not seen Transamerica, but I will put it on my list. Thanks for the review.

  2. Huffman was very good here, and the film has some rough patches here and there but the overall dramedy tone worked out well for this strange but quirky film. Good review, check out mine when you can!
